“In handmade items lies a spiritual quality that is lacking in machine made goods, as genius as the design may be.

The human that gives form to a crafts item, that s/he creates and brings his dreams into it, must love that piece, completed by him.

And this loved piece, warmed and formed by human hands, is filled with it’s own life.

It has a particular personality, which sensitive, understanding people are aware of.

The wares a crafts person makes are alive and friendly and comradely and we love them without knowing why.

Maybe some of the soul of the artist flow into it, they are not just dead matter, but genuine fairies, elves and gnomes, which like the toys in Anderson’s fairytales come alive when nobody is looking and listening.”

Excerpt by Dion Fortune (1890-1946)

That’s what makes everybody’s work unique, different soul aspects flowing into the work.

I didn’t know any of this when I started out in 1989, my Dad cut gemstones and passed on his love for them to me. After finishing my masters, my journey brought me to Ireland, where I live ever since enjoying the connection to the heart.

The 21st century is far removed from the power and wisdom of the Ancient cultures, today there are very different challenges to every day life, but one thing we keep in common with the past, is the wish for adornment. With the help of jewellery and cloth we still underline who we are and what we are about. May it be the precious “traditional” way, jewellery past on through generations, passing on the family history, wearing an heirloom can be a blessing or a burden.

Precious diamonds uniquely set for that one wonderful love story of a lifetime.

Or jewellery on the fast track, where fashion lives short and jewellery is replaceable with every outfit, but fun and light-hearted.

As I learned more about vibrations and colour and how our emotions influence our life’s and health I focused more on the healing aspect of gemstones, every piece is telling a story helping you to connect to your true self and finding bliss wherever you go.

At the moment I love all greeny blues-Apatite, Chalcedony, Aquamarine, I also love the great colour variety of Tourmaline, Opal and Sapphire. I love unusual stones like Strawberry Quartz and a beach stone can be as appealing and precious as a Diamond.

My work is available in Rothe House/ Kilkenny, Design Yard/ Dublin, Bridge Pottery/ Burnchurch and a selected collection on line @ www.spiritjewellery.ie
